I was born in Bangor, Maine and I was raised to be an artist.
My grandmother was a painter, and my parents have creative practices that influenced and supported my artistic pursuits. I received my BFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts / Tufts University in Boston in 1999. In 2006 I received an MFA from California State University, Long Beach.
My artwork has been exhibited in numerous cities such as Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, Boston, San Jose, and Kansas City. My work has been published and reviewed in several publications such as Art in America, New American Paintings, The Los Angeles Times, Artweek, The Kansas City Star, and ZYZZYVA.
My paintings, drawings and small sculptures are in public and private collections throughout the United States.
I have taught at the University and secondary levels as well as privately to individual students. As an Art Coach, I guide artists through an individualized process that focuses on building a strong relationship with their thought process, idea generation, and artistic practice.
My art business has been designated as a "Trusted Art Seller" with The Art Storefronts Organization, which means you can shop with confidence, and know that I stand behind the quality and value of my products.
My grandmother, a painter, was my first inspiration. I wanted to make beautiful things as she did. I wanted to put myself, my joys, my frustrations, my questions, into something that would last forever as she did.
I primarily make oil paintings and drawings. I also take photographs and make small sculptures out of fake fingernails. The oil painting technique I use has a long history that is rooted in Northern European and Italian Renaissance painting. I work from observation and I use photographs I’ve taken as references.
My artwork is in numerous public and private collections throughout the United States. I’ve shown my work in exhibitions throughout the US such as Los Angeles, New York City, Chicago, and Philadephia. My work has been published in the Art in America, L.A. Times, New American Paintings, the Kansas City Star, and ZYZZYVA.
